Isola Spargi, Sardinia
Summer is finally here in Italy: schools close, the air gets warmer, and the holiday atmosphere begins. The scent of the sea mixes with fresh summer breezes, and the sound of laughter and waves fills the air. Whether you love quiet moments on a sunbed, long walks along the shore, or exploring charming coastal towns, Italian beaches offer something for everyone.
After reading this article, you’ll surely feel inspired to relax on one of these beautiful spots. I’ve selected some of my favorite destinations, covering different regions to give a varied perspective. From secluded coves to iconic beaches, Italy is full of amazing places to sunbathe, swim in crystal-clear waters, and enjoy unforgettable summer memories. Choosing just a few beaches wasn’t easy, but I hope these suggestions will inspire your next vacation!
1. Riviera del Conero, Marche
The Riviera del Conero is breathtaking: crystal-clear sea in front of you, with gentle hills and mountains rising behind. Some beaches are sandy, others pebbly, but all have a unique charm and stunning views. One of the most famous is Spiaggia delle Due Sorelle, mainly reachable by boat.
Best period to visit: June to September, avoiding the peaks of July and August if you prefer fewer crowds.
Activities & excursions:
Trekking: explore the trails of Conero Park, like Passo del Lupo or the North/South Belvedere paths
Visit the Camerano Caves (underground city)
Santuario della Santa Casa di Loreto and Chiesa di San Pietro al Conero
Boat trips to discover hidden coves and snorkeling in clear waters
2. Costa degli Dei, Calabria
The Costa degli Dei is one of the most stunning coastal stretches in southern Italy, located along the Tyrrhenian coast near Tropea. Known for its crystal-clear turquoise waters, dramatic cliffs, and white sandy coves, this area offers some of the most breathtaking beach landscapes in the country. It’s perfect for both relaxation and exploration, with a mix of lively spots and hidden gems.
Best period to visit: June to mid-September.

Swim and relax at iconic beaches like Spiaggia della Rotonda and Capo Vaticano

Explore the historic center of Tropea and visit the famous Sanctuary of Santa Maria dell’Isola
Enjoy local cuisine with sea views
3. La Maddalena Archipelago, Sardinia
The islands of La Maddalena feature water so crystal-clear it almost doesn’t seem real. The beaches have white sand and hidden coves to explore by boat. A day in the archipelago is unforgettable: dive into spectacular waters, enjoy lunch on board, and spend the day discovering the islands.
Best period to visit: June and September to avoid crowds; July and August are still beautiful but busier.
Activities & excursions:
Rent a boat to explore hidden coves.
Snorkeling in transparent waters.
Hiking on the main islands, such as Caprera, La Maddalena, and Santo Stefano.
Horseback riding along the island trails.
Walks through the historic centers of the main islands, such as La Maddalena and Caprera, to discover charming streets, squares, and historical landmarks.
4. Salento, Puglia
Salento is one of my favorite places: crystal-clear waters and beaches that stretch along the entire coast. Pescoluse, known as the “Maldives of Salento,” and Porto Cesareo are just a few of the must-see spots.
Best period to visit: June to mid-September; July and August are the busiest months.
Activities & excursions:
Boat trips along the coast.
Snorkeling and diving.
Walks through the historic centers of Gallipoli, Lecce or Otranto.
Local food tastings in coastal villages.
Explore the Castro caves, spectacular natural formations along the coast.
5. Rabbit Beach, Lampedusa
Rabbit Beach (Isola dei Conigli) is one of the most iconic beaches in Italy and the world. Fine white sand and turquoise waters that are incredibly transparent. It is part of a nature reserve and is home to sea turtles.
